I designed this collection in an optional knitwear design course in my 3rd year in Savonia UAS. The theme of the assignment was a macro trend called ReMaster. ReMaster takes rich colours and textures from past centuries and brings them up-to-date with a contemporary touch.
I was inspired by the old children's tale called "Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen. It was one of my favourite stories as a child. I started to think about the Snow Queen's magnificent robes and capes and wondered: "What would the Snow Queen wear today?" So there was my collection in a nutshell: Modern Day Snow Queen.
But who is Modern Day Snow Queen? I figured she'd be a female, from 30 to 50 years old. Definitely not younger. She must be a successful career woman who cherishes quality clothes. She wants to look smart at work, but likes to change into a comfortable jumper when she gets home.
This collection is not very large, but it has the key elements that my target person might need: some basics to wear at work, a few pieces for outdoors, a cocktail dress for formal parties and a little something to curl up with after a long day.
THE GARMENT I PUT TOGETHER
Top part (white) is strechy fabric (97% viscose, 3% spandex). Bottom part made with a knitting machine combining alpaca, nylon and wool yarns. Hem and wristbands are hand-knitted.
