My name is Oona, I'm 27 years old and I live in Oulu, Northern Finland.
I'm a designer and dressmaker. Actually I'm enthusiastic about anything that I can craft with my hands.
I have always been interested in clothes and the process of making them.
I started sewing for myself when I was a pre-teen. I grew tall and couldn't find any clothes that would fit me. I looked like a flagpole in everything. Besides, I was very picky about what I would wear. So I had to learn how to alter, which lead me to learning how to make patterns etc. Later I realized this was something I wanted to do for a living, so I went and got a proper education on this trade.
My design priorities are first-class quality and timeless elegance. I think a garment should last for years. This is possible when good materials are used and the item is not designed for only one trendy moment. I'm also very interested in ecological design and I try to use recycled materials as often as I can.
I get a lot of my inspiration from the rugged nature of Northern Finland. I love wandering in the untouched forests, a privilege we have here in the North. The quietness helps me unwind and clears my mind.
Anyway, this website includes my CV and online portfolio, welcome!
I'm always interested in new projects and opportunities, so if you have something in mind, don't hesitate to contact me!
